A few days after Morgan Brittany and I appeared on Mike Huckabee‘s TBN show, I sent Governor Huckabee an email telling him about our friend James Patrick Riley. Long-time PolitiChicks readers know Jim from our many stories about his wonderful (and very public) homestead, Riley’s Farm, where he and his family conduct educational reenactments for schools throughout the year. (Morgan and I have even stomped grapes for their wine a few times!)
Recently Jim and his family have been under attack by groups trying to blacklist his farm. The reason? In a nutshell, because Jim Riley is a Republican. And unlike most California business owners, Jim refuses to keep his conservative opinions hidden. He posts openly on social media about news and politics the same way the people trying to blacklist him do–the difference is that to the people trying to destroy him, he is on the wrong side of the railroad tracks..You know, “tolerance” and all that jazz….
Thankfully for everyone’s First Amendment rights—and yes, even those trying to blacklist him–instead of caving in or cowering James Patrick Riley and his family have chosen to FIGHT BACK and they’ve countered with a lawsuit of their own. Our PolitiChicks contributor Michelle Mears-Gerst wrote an excellent article about it (see below) so that’s what I sent along with my email to Gov. Huckabee.
